Namaste

We got here without too much difficulty – other than the oxygen masks issue that Karen mentioned. For Cat and Ruth – it was a 777-200. For everyone else who was wondering, yes, those oxygen masks actually do exist and do fall from the ceiling! In this case, it was then entire compartment that fell – held by a small cord. Moving to the last row, though, assured us of nobody behind us kicking our seat and nobody could sit in front of us because that was the evacuated row. We did sit with a very lovely Indian woman who is returning home to visit family while spending time in the U.S. doing her post-doc research.

All the stories of Delhi driving and traffic (so far in the short time here at least) are true. There’s a lot of honking of horns. It’s not really clear who or what people are honking at or if anyone knows they are being honked at or if anyone really cares they are being honked at. The lines on the roads seem more suggestions than rule and there are a mix of cars, buses, auto-Rickshaws, bikes, motorcycles, scooters, people on foot. So far, no animals, but we’ve only been here for a few hours!

The people have been very polite and friendly. We had a very nice driver and guide pick us up, but we’re not sure if they will be our guides for tomorrow yet. We’ll find out in the morning.

Can't wait for the pics! I'm heading to Ruth's tomorrow to prepare for an election day celebration (fingers crossed). I am sure you PA residents took advantage of early voting opportunities prior to your departure.
